Venturing into my sixth listen from 2002, The Wishing Well, highlights its enduring appeal. Connecting with Pamela, Randy, and Sarah Copus through emails and interviews deepens my appreciation for their music’s emotional depth and musical qualities. I would encourage others to explore this album.

It is the key that always opens another door to another world, an alternate universe that invites you to feel calm, reflect, and relax. It’s always a welcome respite from the overstimulating world of media and news we are subject to these days.

“Overture: The Restless Heart” begins with orchestral textures and beautiful wordless vocalizations, then moves to an entrancing flute and acoustic guitar. The violin strings then enter the composition, creating another mesmerizing layer of sound to captivate you.

“Three Wishes” provides an acoustic piano introduction, then a layer of synths for that orchestral touch. The dreamy layered sequences always seem to find a place in their compositions; it’s where the stories are built from.  This is a beautiful lullaby to tuck away your day before drifting off into a deep sleep.

'Twilight' features gentle harp notes that softly reach out to your consciousness, inviting you to settle into a calming nighttime mood. The angelic melodies guide you into a relaxed, carefree state, washing away stress and hurried thoughts, making it an ideal track for unwinding.

“The Spiral of Heaven” is the perfect segue from the previous track. The piano tinkles as the synth layer calls out, sparking curiosity and wonder about the journey ahead. The flute enters with its magical tones, inviting you to feel as if you fell into a story unfolding, inspiring awe and fascination.

“Dream Chasers” is another logical progression in the sequence of these tracks. The uplifting sounds and wordless vocals disarm you immediately. The acoustic guitar lines resonate, pulling you in as the flute begins its call to your sense of wonder once again. The piano’s gentle notes further enhance the picture being painted in your mind. The upbeat tempo brings you joy and a smile that lingers. Melodic intersections of instruments combine for absolute beauty.

“Moon Lore” brings the magic of this music into the light once again. When you look at the track titles and think about it just for a moment, you are already on your way into the world being created before you. Lore and magic are what these compositions are all about, and this is another perfect example of how the Copus family pulls you into their stories and never lets go. The flute is key here.

“A Safe Harbor” for us all awaits in this wonderful music. That says it all in words and music. The instrumentation is superbly rendered, and the angelic vocalizations create a sense of warmth and reassurance, inviting you into a “safe” place filled with love and comfort, like a gentle embrace.

Another perfect segue is “On the Wings of Angels” as you get your wings and ascend into the heavens above. We all have our wings, and the ability to let go and let them spread is the key. The music will help you do that. A lovely bed of synth is laid down, with the flute and guitar adding their distinctive ambiance. The essence of simplicity and just being is captured and embraced here.

“Bellehaven” feels like a warm blanket covering me as the acoustic guitar and harp lead me into another time and place I gladly enter. As we get closer to when this magical book closes, you feel grateful for this musical divinity and how it makes you think, and this is yet another highlight of this recording.

“Savitri’s Dream” is the longest track at 4:01. It gives us all a little more to savor the excellence of this musical journey. The layers of piano, orchestrations, and synths merge for sheer beauty and solace, creating a space within your own space. The power and grandeur of the music of 2002 is nicely encapsulated in this curtain closer.

The Wishing Well is another masterpiece of new age instrumental recordings. If you enjoy instrumental music that can create an enhancing mood, this will be your one-way ticket to a trip you’ll want to take again. It awaits your beckoned call. Push play.
